Voluntary Worksite Benefits—
Good Business Strategy or a Waste of Time?
It seems like all we read now in every benefit magazine, trend study and carrier communication is about the rising trend of employers to offer voluntary worksite benefits. But if you're like many of our member agents, you may be saying--which employers are offering it? Because they certainly aren't your groups nor are they getting it from you. Let's face it, many of us who have lived in the medical, dental, DI space just haven't dipped our toes into the worksite waters for a variety of reasons.
It's true, despite all the best efforts of your carrier reps, this voluntary space is entering its toddler stage here in West Michigan. But the key point is, just like a toddler, it is a growing organism. More and more agents are developing solutions for their clients on the voluntary side of things. Whether it is through enrollment solutions, more traditional group products with guarantee issue levers or simply better takeover products for old, under-serviced voluntary in their groups, agents are beginning to grow their portfolios and solidify their relationships with voluntary here in West Michigan.
Join us Wednesday, May 8 at Frederik Meijer Gardens as we welcome Lesley Schafer, Michigan Regional Sales Manager for Allstate Benefits as she attempts to do what the benefits magazine articles don't do—actually give you real world examples and information for how/when voluntary can work. The focus will not be on product but rather on the fundamentals of this space:
- What makes up a good Critical Illness/Accident contract
- How to approach your current clients who have voluntary benefits in place
- How to design marketing strategies to meet new groups through the voluntary conversation
- Solutions within the enrollment process: i.e. wellness; education; HR
- New technology on the horizon
